The Dean's Advice

I'll be sitting for a Methodology in Teaching Writing test tomorrow and yet I'm doing this - updating my blog. I should not waste my time at this very moment. I should be reading my notes (if I had any) now.

Sekejap! Siapa cakap tulis blog ni membuang masa? Sebenarnya  tulis blog ni banyak manfaatnya. One of the benefits is you can actually improve your writing skills. Betul tidak? Saya tau saya betul.

But then, I'll be having a test tomorrow. Reading my notes (apparently I don't have any) is the task that I should be doing now. Tapi tidak mengapa. This won't take long, I hope.

So, today, I attended the Majlis Amanat Dekan at INTEC UiTM Seksyen 17 Shah Alam. This was my first time attending this event although it had been organized many times before. Basically, in this event, the dean of the faculty would give a speech basically about the faculty itself and the students in terms of their academic achievements, development and so on and so forth. It sounds boring, doesn't it? Yep. That was exactly the perception I had in mind when I was told about the event.

Surprisingly, it wasn't that bad. In fact, I actually enjoyed the dean's speech very much. I thought the event would be carried out in an extremely formal way but apparently, I thought wrong. It actually wasn't. I think the new dean is kinda cool. He pointed out few important things concerning the students. Some of it really caught my attention.

THE DEAN: "Sebagai pelajar UiTM dan bakal cikgu, adab berpakaian haruslah dijaga. Berpakaianlah mengikut jantina anda. Yang lelaki tu pakailah seperti lelaki. Yang perempuan tu pakailah seperti perempuan."

THE DEAN: "Kalau nak ketawa tu, berpada-padalah. Elakkan ketawa kuat macam pontianak sehingga menganggu pembelajaran di kelas-kelas yang berdekatan. Pelajar junior terlebih excited. Minta maaflah tetapi saya rasa pelajar-pelajar junior kita agak gedik."
Those above are not the exact words used by the dean but the ideas that he was trying to convey are more or less similar with the statements above.

I think most of what he said are actually very true. Sekarang ni, ramai orang yang kalau kita tengok, kita jadi bingung. Bingung sebab apa? Haa. Macam mana tu?

Therefore, I think the dean's advice should be taken and practiced by the students. Bukannya apa. Itu untuk kebaikan kita juga. As future teachers, we should project good self-image to the society. Bayangkan cikgu lelaki berpakaian baju kurung / blouse & skirt pendek mengajar di hadapan kelas. Guru tu confirm akan jadi topik perbualan yang sangat hangat (obviously not in a positive way) oleh orang ramai. Consequently, all teachers in the world will be regarded as a joke. That's awful.

Generally, everyone should be concerned about this. Not only students and teachers but the entire humankind. You may live your life the way you desire, but makes it a respectable one.
